Bottom floor has three large rooms, all with wonderful vaulted ceilings. The middle room has a tiled floor and serves as a commercial kitchen. Two big windows let in enough light for this to be a pleasant work space. The other two large rooms and the hallway have brick floors and massive oak doors – one houses the furnace, boiler and storage space. The other opens onto the street, a wood-stove in addition to radiators, producing a cosy environment for social gatherings. There is a cloakroom/WC serving this floor.
An old wooden gate set in a high wall leads into a garden with apple trees, mature box hedges, perennials, a rock garden, and grassy areas for children to play. There is also a double outhouse. The garden is completely private, making the veranda a wonderful place for breakfast on summer mornings, or for a shady retreat later in the day.
