Ad Details:

The 2004 AIA Santa Fe Merit Award-winning design of Archaeo Architects, this stunning residence at the foot of Museum Hill recasts the traditions of Territorial-style architecture in the light of 21st century living. The main residence features three distinct living areas linked by a grand hallway that serves as the spine of the house. It concludes outside with an understated and elegant fountain. Architectural plans reveal the intention in play.

A prior residence once occupied the site. The new residence gestures to the old. As the architects describe it “the overall intent was to express the memory of the original house by way of the preserved footprint and to layer this organization with a series of what appear to be freestanding structures linked by a glazed hall, thereby creating a “compound” feeling characteristic of the historical precedents found in Santa Fe. This also provided a closer link between the interior rooms and the exterior gardens and courtyards.”

At its center, the heart of the home is the Great Room. With distinctly defined living, dining and kitchen areas, it is graced by a tall beamed ceiling in a handsome formation, a stone fireplace, clerestories and an entertainment center. The kitchen is simply gourmet, with 2 Dacor wall ovens and a 6-burner range, Bosch dishwasher, Sub-zero and porcelain farmhouse sink. The cabinetry is by Pittman Brothers, the surfaces are slab granite.

Across the hallway, the home office looks north and catches glimpses of the Sangre de Cristo foothills. With built-in desks and doors that glide to a close, it can easily be out of site of visitors and guests.

The Master Bedroom is a comfortably sized sleeping room, with walk-closet and frosted glass doors that open to a wonderful bath with glass vessels atop custom cabinetry and granite counter tops. With shower and soaking tub set into an alcove illuminated with windows, mirrored medicine cabinets here resist the urge to steam and conceal power cords, cosmetics and the like.

Fine window and door placement throughout the residence carry you to the portals and gardens beyond. Designed by Clemens, the exquisite outdoor gardens wrap the home in greenery. Courtyards and fountains are large & small. The rear garden is self-contained and offers places for sculpture and for an artful vegetable garden.

The residence is contains approximately 2379 s/f of heated space and includes a 2-car garage.

Alongside the main residence, touching one corner of the house, is the remodeled one-bedroom, one-bath, 956 s/f guest house in pueblo revival style with private garden and entry. Believed to be late 1980’s/early 1990's vintage, it was renovated in 2003. With open living, dining and kitchen areas, a separate bedroom, full bath and laundry it is light-filled and private and offers independent living for guests and office/studio options.
