The farm is situated in one of the last remaining areas of Atlantic Forest in Brazil. This forest produces a great biodiversity and centuries-old trees like jequitiba, peroba-rosa, vinhatico, ipe, among others. On this farm in particular, there are to be found some monumental jequitiba trees with trunks of girth 6-plus metres.
The farm offers a great potential for eco-tourism and represents a fine opportunity for creating hiking trails through the woods, visits to its waterfalls, springs, etc.
Over the years, the farm has been studied by many biologists and researchers as its higher ground is the main habitat of a rare bird specific to this area with the scientific name of Acrobatornis fonsecai. The species is from the joao-de-barro family and is called graveteiro acrobata “twig-picker acrobat” due to the manner which they build their nests upside-down.
A new orchid species named Olyra bahiensis has also been discovered in its grounds.
Up until the mid 90’s the farm could yield an average of 6,000 sacks (@-arrobas) of cocoa per annum due to its exceptional soil quality.
Close by lies Serra das Lontras Nature Reserve (Municipality of Arataca) where many streams have their source.
