'La Sierra' comprises 29 hectares (approx. 64 acres) of the El Hacho mountain, which at 1,013 metres (3,400 feet) is one of the highest peaks in the region and a notable landmark.

The property's principal access is from the A-405 road. Leaving the road at km1.2, at a legalised access point, a gently rising track leads up to a large flat area about 10 metres up from the road with an impressive panoramic view that encompasses the whole landscape and seascape from the Sierra Bermeja all the way to the Rif mountains of Morocco.
From this area a choice of walking routes with different degrees of ease lead up and around the mountain. A walking track also provides access to the northern boundary of the property, leading from the road behind the Gaucin gasoline station up to the 'Era de los Hinojales', where the land borders the track.
Wild mountain goats and various rare species of birds including booted eagles are to be found on the mountain.
An outline permission for the construction of an hotel has been given.
Other development projects can be proposed as a recent dictate from the Junta de Andalucia permits development of projects 'of social interest' in this class of terrain in Gaucin. Suitable projects run from simple country houses for tourist rental all the way to hotels, spas, activity centres, adventure parks and even sheltered accommodation schemes and old-age residences.
A project for a nature study centre has been presented and partially processed through the various administrations. The proposed centre includes exhibition rooms, lecture/conference facilities, restaurant/ cafe, 14 bedrooms and a guardian's apartment.
There is mains electricity, transformer, and a borehole on the property, the town hall will also allow connection to the mains water supply for a suitable development.
A medium tension electricity line traverses the mountain and a permit was granted to bury the line where it crosses the potential development area. The necessary subterranean conduits and manholes have been installed although the wires have yet to be removed from the pylons and fed through the conduits. A mains transformer has also been installed.
The piles of firewood, lumber and old vehicles/machinery visible on the flat area in the photographs have been cleared.
