Stewart Land is also known as Punta Chital or Punta Tzul which is immediately set to the north of Balam Jungle properties by the Sea. It is a 3,587-acre sea frontage land area that lies on the N.E. coast of Belize; it is a total of 20 miles eastward from Sarteneja, 15 miles westward from the Great Barrier Reef of Bacalar Chico Marine Reserve - A World Heritage Site - and exactly 20 miles S.E. of San Pedro Island. The littoral forest stands about 25 feet high with some sandy beach palmettos and dwarf mangrove forest having 3 shallow blue-green lagoons covering most of the width of its land near the beach coast ideally for marinas and water front lots.
Further inland is extensive low land savannah of wild grass, dwarf mangroves, but dotted with ground mounds of 1 to 5 acres mostly made by the Mayans and they are called “Maya Islas”. Its sheltered sea pristine water captures your attention as there is an abundant set of fish that you can choose to catch such as snappers, grunts, cobia, tarpon, bonefish and on the sandy flats, sierra, macherel, barracuda, and June fish. Besides fishing you can go snorkeling as well since some sea turtles feed here. Also, adjacent is a 4000 acres Nature/Wildlife Reserve recently owned by a Switzerland Foundation which is on the Mesoamerican Bilogical Corridor.
Sarteneja has an all weather road, served by 6 buses daily, a paved airport, 110/220 electricity, clean running water that can easily be obtained for the home’s hot or cold water (washing, cooking and bathing), internet, and cable TV and a few modest hotels.
In addition, near the Mayan City of Kah-Kal-Tulish there are over 250 Mayan mounds scattered on Stewart Land that is scheduled for excavation soon. A pick-up trail to it has already been built and an all weather road as been set as part of the Mayan excavation project.
This property has been protected by the Mexico-Belize Manatee Sanctuary Reserve, where there are several fresh water springs in the sea that manatees drink.
