Yamunotri is one of the four important pilgrimage sites known as the chardham. The charming town Yamunotri is popular for its “Yamunotri Shrine”, Dedicated to goddess Yamuna. Yamunotri is the source of River Yamuna located at an elevation of 3294 meters above the sea level and lies on the Bandar Poonch Parvat. It is situated in the Garhwal Himalayas in the state of Uttarakhnad. Yamunotri Dham is one of four Chardham and the starting point of Chardham Yatra. Every year thousands of the devotees visit this pilgrimage site from all around the country. Yamunotri temple is one of the major attractions of the place, surrounding by the mountains range for all sides and close of the indo-China Border. The temple opens on the day of Akshya Tritiya on the last week of April or first week of May and close after two days of diwali on the day of Bhai Doj. According to the hindu mythology Yamuna is daughter of God Sun and sister of Goddess Yama “God of death”. The temple has a great story, the place was home of a great sage “Asti Muni” and he was taken bath in Ganga River every day but when he become old and not able to reach Ganga, then Goddess Ganga was appeared in the opposite site of Yamunotri to continue his bath.
